Title: 237 The Curing of "Fright" with Lead-pouring in Pograny Village
Interpretation of an ancient folk tradition of lead-pouring:
Presently, Ms. Ilonka pours lead above the patient's white cloth-covered head into a prepared vessel (plate) in which a cross-shaped piece of straw (fastened together with a strand of hair!) and 3 pieces of bread swim. The cause of illness -- the "fright" -- can be deduced/determined from the shape and appearance of the lead-soaked item.
The method of cureing "dry-illness," (this very old term means most likely tuberculosis, manifesting in the malfunction of the respiratory system and combined with coughing and heavy perspiration), have probably been shooted for the first time by a professional staff, which is not demonstrated in this segment.
We would like to center on a short film on this subject. (see film plans)

Ms. Ilonka, the beneficiary of the elders' ancient spiritual wisdom/knowledge is one of the last of the village-healer women in the area. It is a rare occurrence that we might be present with our cameras during such her manifestation of such a spiritually-effective cure.

Dialogue of Audio
Q: Ms. Ilonka, what are you doing now?
A: There will be a lead-pouring. A lead-pouring is when someone becomes frightened out of which the doctors cannot cure him, then they send him to a village woman who understands [is knowledgeable in] lead-pouring.
Q: What will take place now, Ms. Ilonka?
A: Lead-pouring, and we do this for those who are... who were startled/frightened, and on whom the doctors cannot help; and, then, they send him to the village woman, so that the village woman should help him... if there is such [a woman] in the village.
And, then, the lead-pouring begins by our pouring water into a bowl and 3 dear little pieces of bread. This means [asks] that the good Lord help in the lead-pouring, endow it with power, and the two pieces of straw we put into it [in the shape of] a cross, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Then, we light the fire and on this we melt the lead. Matches are needed.
Q: What will happen, Ms. Ilonka ?
A: Now we're going to pour some lead. That means that if [someone] gets startled/frightened, and the doctor cannot help him, then the doctor sends him to a village woman, if there is such a woman in the village, who can perform this spell and magically dispell the fright, this illness.
So, then, in the bowl we first pour water, 3 dear little pieces of bread, which mean that the good Lord should help, give power so that we can drive that sickness out of him/her. Two strands of straw from that broom (for this, only a used straw broom will be good), in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And, we light the fire, place the spoon with the lead on it, and we melt that lead. When there is quiet, then calmly/assuredly...
(This is heard from the participants
Benificent Virgin Mother protect us from every evil, and give us strength so as to cure out this illness...
... there is nothing...
Q: Is it permitted to use up this lead?
A: Continue with this... until the image/shape comes out [which indicates the cause of illness], until then continually... not permitting any new to be added.
Q: But if others... if they come, it's not allowed for others?
A: No. No.
Q: Not even newly melted again?
A: Yes, yes.
Q: And, from whom did you learn this mastery?
A: From whom? Even from my grandmother's mother...
Q: From your great-grandmother? And, did she learn it from a family member too?
A: Well, probably... this I don't remember because I was 6 years old when she died, and she was already 87 years old. And, otherwise, it was all written down. It was noted.
Q: And, did she teach you through practice?
A: We had a woman neighbor who did this, and I used to go over there; and she always used to say that she cannot reveal how to do this. When she was dying, then she had me called and she explained how it must be done. The wife of John Tucsok, Miss Ilus. But, she was in such a state that she could hardly explain it. And, throughout her life she never divulged it to anyone else. No. This, she left upon me. This must be passed along when one is already ill; it must be passed along to someone.
