244 Pograny The "Witchy" Pear Tree.
A Luca napi hiedelmekből szeretnénk kisfilmet készíteni (lsd. filmtervek)

244 Pograny -- The "1000 Year Old" Pear Tree and Witches
Ms. Ilonka showed us this enormous pear tree above the village of Pograny, which then was a place where the witches gathered and danced. We even took out a broom with us but Ms. Ilonka later told us that a new broom is not good for this purpose, so that we were not successful in riding/flying while seated on a broom, aside from the fact that the broom handle would have had to be urinated on first.
"There is still a pear tree like this in a village somewhere above Csitar. This pear tree had to be encircled 3 times with horse-riding movements, and then dancing around it followed... and then the witches swooped down on the broom handles, flying away."
The pear tree's nature should be looked into because is it possible that this is the "Wheat-derived" pear, that Lippay writes about in his 1667 "Fruit Garden" (the issue is addressed at the end of the filming).
We would like to produce a short film on the Luca Day Folktale/Belief. (see film plans)
4. Luca Day Folklore Beliefs & the "Witchy Pear Tree" of Pograny with Ms. Ilonka
Miss Ilonka, a religious woman, is the church's lead vocalist. She uses her inherited knowledge only for the good and for healing. Presently, we are, nevertheless, asking her if she's ever experienced (seen, known of, etc.) witches, to speak of Luca Day folklore/beliefs, and to conduct us to that pear tree around which the witches danced once upon a time. The tree is genuinely impressive, even fortuitous, so much so that today it has been "sainted." (A priest blessed it with prayers and holy water. And, at some point in time, a picture of the Virgin Mary was placed within its branches.)

DIALOGUE:
Of Ms. Ilonka
At one time, there were these young servant lads, whom they taunted [tempted], and would took their hats off their heads... and one of them says: '"Steve, why did you remove my hat?: they moved in such likenesses. And, so this is how they would taunt them [tempted] at night.
There was every kind in the village. And, then, when the women were studying/learning witchery, they had to dance that tree around 3 times, go around it on a broom handle. They sat on the broom handle and 3 times around the tree. And, when they'd finished this, then they would dance. This is how they learned this witchery.
Well, of course, the elders knew more of this, but, though this didn't interest us, we listened, we listened to them. Back at some point, they even went to Csitar; there's a pear tree there also somewhere between Zse re and Csitar. I don't know where that one is... they went there too.
Q: And, in the village, was there only this one pear tree?
A: This one, this one.
Q: How old is this pear tree?
A: ONE THOUSEND.
Q: How many?
A: One thousand... one thousand years. Our grandfather was 92 years old and he always said that he knew this tree to be identical/unchanging... that this tree neither grows... nor... It is unchanging/uniform; therefore, it would not be permitted to ever fell the tree.
Q: Does it still produce?
[Yes.] But, it's wild pears... but it still produces... it does produce. This year there was a lot on it, but it's so very brown when it ripens that one has to put it among the wheat... or however the elders explained it."
